- Waikiki Beach is the most popular place to stay and has the most hotels
- Waikiki is a big city with high-rise buildings and lots of traffic
- If you want to get the authentic Hawaiian feeling, consider staying at one of 2 resorts on the North Shore, or the west coast of Oahu
- No need to rent a car for your full stay if you stay in Waikiki - you can walk all around Waikiki, and you can take their city bus anywhere on the island - it’s a very reliable bus service - or just rent a car for a day here and a day there to avoid the expensive mandatory hotel parking fees
- Don’t pay money for a hiking tour - you can do all kinds of tours by yourself for free
- Two ‘must see’ places on Oahu - the Polynesian Cultural Center and Pearl Harbor
- North Shore waves can reach up to 20 feet from December-May so it’s not safe for swimming, however, you can enjoy watching the surfers - from June-November the North Shore is calm like a lake so you can enjoy paddleboarding, snorkeling, etc.
- Don’t spend your entire stay in Waikiki - be sure to explore all around the island
- All beaches in Hawaii are public - no one can kick you off their beach
- Best time to travel for value & low crowds is March-May & September-November
